Most of our employees are partners/spouses of army personnel who get posted out after a couple of years in Waiouru – unfortunately. As a result vacancies especially in the front-of-house do come up sporadically. Most positions are part-time due to the seasonal nature of our business. The summer months of December to April and the school holiday periods are the busiest.

Accommodation
It is important to factor this into your decision to apply for a position with us. Finding rental accommodation in a small garrison town like Waiouru is not easy unless you are a partner/spouse of army personnel or civilian contractor to the army who is entitled to army housing. Many of the army’s civilian employees live approximately 30 km away in townships like Ohakune, a ski town north of Waiouru and Taihape to the south; both about a 20-minute drive away.

Rations Café
Rations Café is operated by Café au Lait Ltd. an independent restaurant operator. Our normal opening hours for the café are currently 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. daily except Christmas Day – the only day we are closed. However, we also do dinner functions and out catering to the Waiouru Army Camp nearby.
